As it says in the blurb, this is a documentary film about a brotherhood of Viking re-enactors, focused on the Texas Jomsborg group. It's about them, how they fight, why they enjoy Jomsborg, and within that viewpoint, a survey of the whole landscape of Viking fighting reenacting around the world. It does what it purports to do very well, and I found that it held my interest throughout. It's not about the culture or history of the Norsemen or the 8th century Vikings to left their mark indelibly upon European culture; it's about fighting in that era. "To Go Viking" does give a nod to the reenactors who bring other aspects of Viking culture to life, but you'll want to look elsewhere for stories focused on metal smithing, weaving, cooking, farming, clothing, and everything else about the things people do. (Or maybe get that video camera in your cell phone working and make films about it. I don't know of any, actually, so that market might be wide open for you!) Likewise, if you want edge-of-your-seat scary drama with spine-tingling special effects, this ain't your cuppa. But if you want to see what brotherhood and fellowship is like for a large international group of big, hairy guys and a very few uncommonly beautiful women, without being weighed down by any political baggage that I could see, then I think you'll enjoy this film.
